Raising kids to be Entrepreneurs

  1. Raising Kids to be Entrepreneurs

I thought the movie was good because I had never heard someone with ideas like that talk in presentation. I agreed with the idea that being an entrepreneur should be just as welcomed as being a lawyer or doctor. I think this because entrepreneurs are the ones who innovate and create new opportunities for jobs and can create money for the economy. I thought his thoughts on giving medication for depression and ADHD where interesting because he gave example of how people with similar diseases went on to become successful CEOs. I am not sure if I agree though because I don’t know the effects of not taking medication for those diseases. Another interesting aspect was that he told all of his different ways he made money when he was kid which where extremely in-depth but he struggled in school all the same.

I agree with the video for the most part. I think teaching kids at a young age to think for themselves and earn their own living is important. It helps kids grow to be independent, which is an important life skill than many kids miss out on due to their parents handing them things. Raising kids to “be their own boss” gives them the ability to be individuals and strive on their own.
The only part of the video I didn’t agree with was when he mentioned not medicating things such as depression, bi-polar disorder, and ADHD. The medications for these problems are clearly proven to be beneficial.
Raising kids to be entrepreneurs is a positive process that gives them an edge in the business world of the future.

My thoughts about the video were that he guy (Cameron Herold) had a lot of good ideas about what people should do for kids while they are young do they could learn to be financially responsible. This, while kids grow up and start doing smart things with there money. Which will eventually improve the economy.

  4. I thought the movie was very interesting/inspiring at the same time. Cam had many ideas and opinions that I found myself agreeing with, I don’t personally do good in school (nor do I like school) or with direction so I feel like if I were raised as a kid to be an entrepreneur like he was then id have thoughts on what I want to do after high school. I definitely agree with just about everything he said (not trying to force something you aren’t good at but instead taking advantage of what you’re good at) and believe that he could be revolutionary for these up-coming generations.

  5. I thought that this movie had a lot of good ideas because it makes sense, and you wonder “why doesn’t everybody do this,” but there must be a reason why some people want to be entrepreneurs and others do not. Some may just want to be employees, which is also a crucial part of the system.

  6. I completely agree with most of the ideas expressed in this video. I feel as though adults take too much time telling their kids to fit in the status qou, and to mold themselves in to the employees of tomorrow. When we should be telling kids to be their own boss, and make their own money. We try and help kids with the problems they have when in fact we should be nurturing what they do right.
He is raising his kids to not depend on others for money, or services, but instead to do it on their own. The idea of teaching kids at an early age to negotiate pay, hire others to do the hard work, and to start saving early. The only thing I didn’t agree with was not giving kids the necessary medication for certain diseases like ADHD, Bipolar disorder, and depression is absurd. Other than that I thought the video was worth watching, and very informative.

  7. I thought that Cameron Harold had some good points in the video. Raising kids to be entrepeneurs would make kids work and teach the kids to use their money wisely. Kids don't have to work for other people to get money, they can always start their own buisnesses.

I don’t agree with him. I think that he is doing exactly what other people are doing, trying to raise kids how they want them to be raised. He said that this society is always pushing kids to be doctors and lawyers, but he is exactly doing the same thing by pushing his kids and other kids to be entrepreneurs. There are some things that are smart ideas like putting some money into an account for your kid to save. But there are also dumb ideas, like not medicating the children and people with ADHD or who are bi polar.

  9. I agree with his ideas becuase I think he has a point. I think that we should let other people do the crapy work while we the entreprenuers do the easy work and do nothing. I like the idea of teaching kids early so that the become a business owner.

I found this video to be very interesting and motivating. Herold’s opinions on different subjects like ADD and other disorders as well as how to start a kid off at a young age is very interesting. I liked his theory about ADD because I think that the majority of kids diagnosed with ADD don’t need to be medicated, it doesn’t threaten their lives and without the medication who knows what ideas a person could come up with, being on medication can change a person.
I also enjoyed his idea of starting kids off young and saying that just because they weren’t the best at school, and just because they aren’t good with medicine or math, they could still be very successful in life, as an entrepreneur. Raising kids to be their own boss is a great way of opening their eyes for the future, even if they don’t go into entrepreneurship, the knowledge of those skills could still be very helpful to them in the future. Saving at a young age, including every penny that you find is also something that people should always consider, eventually all those penny’s, all that spare change, adds up, and you never know how much money could come out of it in the span of time.
I like that he finds ways to sell everything, even junk and get some sort of profit in the end. “Buy low, sell high.” Is a great saying to go by because that’s how you’re going to get money, that’s how you’re going to gain a profit. His views and advice could be helpful to anybody, you never know what people would pay money for. You never know what idea you come up with could end up being successful.

  11. I thought the video was very interesting because it was spoken by someone who is an entrepreneur himself. Cameron Herold seems like a very opinionated person, and he was not afraid to speak his mind. I do agree with him about his discussion on entrepreneurship being introduced to kids as well as being doctors or lawyers. The part in his presentation I did not particularly agree on was when he said you should not medicate your kids for things like depression and ADHD. He did make the point that people like Steve Jobs and Ted turner had bipolar disorder, and if they had been medicated there is a probability that they might not have been able to come up with their brilliant idea. On the other hand, if there was someone with something like depression wit a great idea but was not medicated, he/she might not be able to brig that idea up in the world without the proper medication. I thought he was a very smart person, and he seemed to know exactly what he was talking about. Raising kids to be entrepreneurs can be very beneficial if they are heading into the business world of the future.

  12. I think that the short clip we watched was very interesting. I think this guy brought up a lot of good points and could be very inspiring to other people. One of the ideas that I liked the most from the clip was the bank account idea. For a kid to start saving at a very young age is a very good idea, that way when the kid is trying to buy a car when they are sixteen then will be able to. Also they could save for college and help their parents out or themselves out with paying for college. Another thing that I liked was the idea of him not getting an allowance and not having your kids expect a weekly pay. This decision could help you or your kids in the future.

  13. The man in the video definitely has a great work ethic . I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he was groomed starting from a young age . I’ve known neighbors whos kids go around the block asking if they need their lawns mowed , leaves raked or driveways shoveled . When he was speaking it made a lot of sense ; being your own boss , not having to follow anyone else’s guidelines , or even being an inventor . he had some great examples and stories to build up what he has become today . You never know what ideas you could come up with and end up being successful . I thought his theory on children with A.D.D going unmediated . A lot of music artists discovered their talents through their drugs . A.D.D wont kill a child ; what if medicating them if blocking a creativity spot in their brain . Then the inventions and ideas will never come through .

  14. I liked what the speaker said about teaching kids to not be employees but to have employees to make jobs for other people. I liked how Cameron Herold said to not give kids allowance but to have them find things they can do and then negotiate how much they will be paid. This teaches kids that you can get money for fulfilling services. Herold said that he hired people to do work for him in school. You can work harder and struggle all your life to reach the top or you could work smarter and use the resources that are around you. Another thing that I liked was that Herold said that to teach kids to find ways to make money and not rely on others for money.

  15. I think that while Cameron had some good ideas he also came across as quite the radical. While it’s great if your kid wants to be entrepreneur there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be Doctor or Lawyer. I also thought that he lost a lot of his credibility when he started talking about not medicating kids. I think it’s cool if you go and start business and new ideas but not everyone can do that and the way he puts it, it makes it sound like it makes you less valuable to be an employee. He seems to forget that to run a business you need employees and if every ones making business there will be no one to work at them.

  16. I thought the movie brought up some very good points. Not every kid is alike. There are some kids that excel in language arts, some in math and science, some in history, or some in art and music. Every kid has their own strengths and schools are trying to make every kid the same student instead of trying to highlight their strengths instead of their weaknesses. Kids that take the initiative to find a solution by them and be a leader should be pushed to be stronger in that subject. I am not the perfect student and entrepreneurship is something I am starting to feel strongly about and may be something I want to try and pursue after high school and into college and maybe even further in life if baseball doesn’t work out for me. I think that schools today should try and help kids find what they want to do after high school at an earlier age and try to help them reach that goal starting from an earlier age based on their strengths.

  17. I found this clip very interesting. This guy has been taking the steps his whole life to be an entrepreneur because it runs in his family. He seemed to be a very self-motivated person who wanted to succeed in life. He also seemed to think that everything was about money which interested me. Another interesting take he had was with the issue of medication for disorders like A.D.D. Personally I feel that due to his disorders he didn’t do well in school which led to him graduating with 61.1% gpa in high school and college. What if someone took his advice of not taking meds aspiring to be an entrepreneur but didn’t make it? Where would that leave them? Over all I felt that the clip was good and gave us good feedback and knowledge straight from an entrepreneur himself.

  18. I’m unsure about kids getting into entrepreneurship. You can have a business or a job. If business you create more jobs for people but cost thousands of dollars at a small business or a house that’s cramped with people. If job it pays money but u can work for more hours and stress more. But you don’t lose any thing

  19. I think Cameron Herold in Raising Kids to be Entrepreneurs was very inspiring and so was his video at the end. He admits when he was kid he didn’t do the best in school and found himself getting in trouble at times. However he remained very optimistic and tried to look at things with an “outside of the box” type of view. I agree with most of his ideas in introducing entrepreneurship at a young age. Although I disagree with him in denying kids medication like Ritalin. I believe in most cases that the medication for people with ADHD and depression help them focus. Like me, Cam Herold is always looking to make a profit. At a young age he was always looking how to make exchanges that would result in a personal gain. Herold is the perfect entrepreneur simply because of his mentality.

  20. I believe that Cameron Herold's idea of having kids learn and become entrepreneurs is intriguing. He goes against the idea of following the mainstream idea of going to college. He points out that not all kids will end up the same way as the next and that they should be allowed to follow what they truly want. His ideas are unique and is different from the norm.
